About Openz
First and foremost, Openz is meant to be a "nexus" - it connects businesses having
software and IT system needs to the open source (OS) focused vendors who
can provide and support them. Following those connections, Openz
strives to promote ongoing business relationships - partnerships that
the reflect the critical role that computing infrastructure plays in all
aspects of modern business.
To demonstrate the value of OS software and systems to kiwi businesses,
Openz, in conjunction with the NZ Open Source Society (NZOSS),
must first create a level playing
field. Openz strives to build a community around business/OS vendor
interaction by providing directories of vendor
skills and capabilities, business cases, tutorials, editorials, and
links to other resources. Furthermore, Openz complements these online
resources with professional meetings and conferences to promote OS and
presentation of OS matters to the local media.
Openz collaborates with the NZOSS to strengthen the vital bond
between OS vendors and the community to which they owe their livelihood
through open forums, education programs and support for schools,
organisations, and local government.
Of course, Openz started as an advocacy group - roots we will not forget. The NZ government and
business have the ability to do great things on behalf of this country if they make good decisions. We
take seriously the responsibility to provide our government with the credible information it needs on IT, intellectual property, digital rights, security, and education matters to make good decisions for NZ.
